Hacer con tales cortapisas una tragedia que tenga vida é interés dramático, me parece empresa dificil; por eso dudo haberlo con seguido; pero ello es que lo he intentado.
Otra cosa he intentado además, y tampoco sé si con buen éxito.
Con la revolucion llamada romántica ha sucedido lo que con to das las revoluciones: vienen derribando por tierra cuanto encuen tran; pero así que pasan, lo que no debió caer vuelve á levantarse, y sólo queda muerto lo que debió morir.
El romanticismo proclamó la muerte de las tres unidades, huas de la escuela clásica del siglo xvm: las tres unidades han quedado muertas, porque debian morir; pero se ha levantado la unidad; uni dad de accion la llaman unos; unidad de interés otros: yola llamo unidad de pensamiento: todos queremos decir lo mismo: todos nos referimos á esa condicion indispensable. Á ese principio eterno, sin cuya observancia no hay obra de arte, ¿qué digo obra de arte? No hay nada en el mundo que convenza, que persuada, que sea bello.
