Reseña del editor:
In the spring of 1974 ... Richard Nixon was desperately clinging to the presidency. Hank Aaron was about to break Babe Ruth’s home run record, the very first issue of People magazine was about to hit the newsstands, and “ooh-ga-chukka, ooh-ga-chukka, I’m hooked on a feeling” was playing on the AM radio. Somewhere in America, a shy, skinny kid from Detroit was riding a Greyhound bus across the country, enjoying naked women, exuberant cowboys and exotic Mexican food. That same kid was fleeing bullies and a paranoid-schizophrenic father and running head-on into sex predators, armed robbers and murder victims with steam still rising from gunshot wounds. Always, however, the skinny kid had the comfort of the Greyhound bus and the colorful and sometimes lost souls he met along the long, empty stretches of the American heartland. For at least one lonely rider, innocence was lost in 1974 ...
Biografía del autor:
After 30 years in corporate journalism, Ken found peace after returning to his hippie roots on a small chicken farm in rural Oregon. He also found new adventure with a volunteer fire department. Born in 1955 and raised in lower middle-class suburban Detroit, Ken set out on two years of solo adventures throughout the United States in search of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. He then abruptly settled down, sailing through college in four years despite attending three schools: Ohlone College, Georgia State University and the University of Dayton. By the time he graduated Ken had written for the San Jose Mercury-News and The Catholic Telegraph, served a Dow Jones Newspaper Fund Editing Internship at Newsday and landed a full-time job at The Dayton Daily News. From Dayton, Ken moved to The Columbian in Vancouver, WA, where he spent 24 years as news editor, technology coordinator, and new media manager, among other positions. As new media manager in 1994, Ken launched columbian.com, listed by the Newspaper Association of America as one of the first seven known daily newspaper websites in the country. After retiring, Ken launched a number of websites and blogs. In addition to personal sites such as thesashabawproject.com and mykittyseyes.com, Ken built websites and social media platforms for others, including cast members of the History Channel's “Ax Men” series and various public safety agencies. Ken lives in rural Oregon with his wife, Kris. He is a National Fire Protection Association certified Public Information Officer and volunteers with the Gaston Rural Fire District, Safe Kids Coalition and other organizations.
