Octavo, 9" tall, frontispiece + 35 black and white photo plates + 299 text pages, gilt spine titles, and white cover decoration on blue cloth. A very good hardcover overall, generally clean, sturdy, and square with minor shelf wear, rubbing at the corners, and minor darkening to the spine cloth, BUT the front free endpaper and fly-leaf have been torn out; binding solid, text paper lightly yellowed. Without a dust jacket.

First Edition. 230mm x 160mm (9" x 6"). xviii, 299pp. Numerous b/w photographic plates, many taken by the author. Elizabeth Hawkins-Whitshed was an Irish heiress. She married three times; firstly, in 1879, Frederick Burnaby (1842 1885); secondly, in 1886, John Frederick Main (died 1892); and thirdly, in 1900, to Francis Bernard Aubrey Le Blond. Her main passion was mountain photography, capturing mountain scenery, which she combined with mountaineering. She was also an author and autobiographer; in 1883 she published 'The High Alps in Winter' describing her mountaineering experiences. She wrote under the names Mrs. Fred Burnaby, Mrs. Main, and Mrs. Aubrey Le Blond, and was usually known by the latter. G : in Good condition without dust jacket. Cover rubbed with wear to spine ends. Corners bumped. Inner hinges cracked. Contents foxed and browned. Teg Green hardback pictorial cloth cover.
