Frontispiece + titlepage +[2]pp blank +6-111pp +[1]p blank. Some pressure marks to rear endpapers, lower cover with a few pencil marks. All text and all colour plates printed one side only, blank sides counted in page numbering though they are not themselves numbered. *A neat copy of this charming book by the author of Little Black Sambo. 1 volume. vi, 56, [2] pp. Last leaf blank. Frontis + 26 full-page color illustrations after the originals. 16mo. 5-3/4" x 4" Barton, while incorrect in her note regarding dust jacket price, was correct when she stated, "scarce in dust jacket." A Nr Fine book in an Abt VG jacket, which has a tape repaired split to the left of the front panel, and a chip at the top of the spine panel [no lettering affected]. Red cloth binding with color pictorial paper onlay to front board, showing 'Little Black Sambo', within an oval, walking while carrying a green umbrella. Buff printed dust jacket, which duplicates binding pictorial, and has a '75¢' price to front flap 1st edition in French (Barton, p. 118). NB. Barton calls for a "$1.00" price on the dust jacket; this is incorrect. Per the 4th edition of The United States Catalog, this book was first issued with a "75¢" price.

Fifth edition hard back binding in publisher's original tea green cloth covers, blocked and parallel stripes in forest green to the spine and to the front and rear covers, last page states London, Engraved & Printed at the Racquet Court Press by Edmund Evans. 32mo. 5'' x 3¼''. Contains 27 coloured illustrations, text and plates printed on one side only. Spine sun faded, some inner joints exposed, without any marks to the plates or text block. Member of the P.B.F.A. Jagged tear visibly repaired on one text leaf (page 50). Modest cover scuffing and wear (including evidence of removal of a tag sale sticker on front cover). A couple of minor brown stains (on front cover and top edge of pages). Former owner's name (Barbara Winslow). Small bookseller's label (E. T. Sills in Meriden, Conn.) in bottom corner of front pastedown. No jacket. While there is no date and no statement as to edition, this uncommon version has various issue points (color of title on cover, blank back cover, size, etc.) which identify it as the 2nd American edition.
