Karte
Coloured plan, 305 x 580 mm. old creases. [Drawing no. 7805] Barry Parker [1867 - 1947] and his half cousin Raymond Unwin [1863 - 1940] were important and influential architects and town planners who drew on Arts and Crafts values when designing homes for living in rather than just houses. They were leading architects and planners for two of the most significant garden developments in England: Letchworth Garden City and Hampstead Garden Suburb. The Hampstead Garden Suburb Trust was established in 1906 and a special Act of Parliament was required to counter local bylaws so that the principles of the scheme could be upheld. These included low housing density, tree lined roads, hedges and trees as boundaries, mixed social housing and no church bells. This plan was produced in consultation with Edwin Lutyens who also designed two churches for the suburb. This map pre-dates the development, no other copies have been traced.

Three coloured maps on a single sheet, 570 x 650 mm. old creases. Barry Parker [1867 - 1947] and his half cousin Raymond Unwin [1863 - 1940] were important and influential architects and town planners who drew on Arts and Crafts values when designing homes for living in rather than just houses. They were leading architects and planners for two of the most significant garden developments in England: Letchworth Garden City and Hampstead Garden Suburb. Letchworth Garden City was the first garden city, initially proposed in 1903 by the founding of First Garden City Ltd. Parker and Unwin were appointed to design the initial layout of the town and this is one of the earliest plans of the development, the first houses having been occupied in July 1904. Early maps and plans of the development are uncommon.
