  • Bild des Verkäufers für Deutschland Europa Und Die Welt: Reden zur deutschen Aussenpolitik (Only Signed Book) (Signed and inscribed to John J. McCloy) zum Verkauf von Rareeclectic

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. In German. Probable First Edition (NAP). Once listed, this will be the Only signed copy of the book anywhere on the Internet. In fact, I believe it will be the only book he signed of those he wrote or of those that were written about him. Jawaharlal Nehru signed and inscribed a photograph of himself to Heinrich Von Brentano. It is selling for$3,755.00. This book is also unique for its being inscribed to the former Assistant Secretary War and US High Commissioner to Postwar Germany, John J. McCloy. You can see the signed inscription in the photograph of the half-title page. The covers of the book are very nice-looking, a light green front and rear with a dark green spine between them (always a good place to put the spine). The covers are exceptionally clean. The gilt lettering on the spine is fairly bright. The spine ends look good, just a small whitish spot off the bottom one. There are two tiny dents just off the front top edge. The front covers bottom corner has a thin crease. The corners appear to be free of rubbing, as are the edges. The page edges are very clean. The book is square and the spine is straight. The binding is very solid from cover to cover with nicely tight pages and nicely tight covers as well. The pages are exceptionally clean. Scrolling through, I'm not finding any instances of soiling. There is a very light crease a little bit above the bottom corners of pages 33-77. And, probably due to a little bump there is a tiny crease just below the tip of the top corner of the pages beginning right before page 200 and running through to page 280, very tiny. I didn't see any other creases. There are no placeholder creases. There are no markings in the book. No attachments of any kind. And the author's signed inscription is the only writing to be found anywhere. There are 16 pages of photographs near the end of the book. They are all in excellent condition. The last one shows Von Brentano in conversation with President John Kennedy. There is another with he and Adenauer, another with he and Adenauer and Winston and Lady Churchill, one with he and Edward Heath ,one with he and Anthony Eden, another with he and Adenauer in conversation with Harry Truman, another with him speaking with John Foster Dulles, another with him speaking with Dulles, Pinay, and Macmillan, another with he and President Theodor Heuss, and one with he and Pope Pius XII. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It has a spot of soiling off the top edge of the front cover. There's also a sliver of loss there. The top edge of the spine has a handful of tiny tears, the bottom edge has speck-sized loss. There is a thin tear and crease off the top edge of the rear cover, some soiling at the middle of it. The flaps look pretty good, the front one has a thin vertical crease. The jacket is not priced or clipped. I've always had it in a fitted protective cover. Heinrich von Brentano was a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union. He served as Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs (which I believe is akin to our Secretary Of State) from 1955 to 1961. 'The Brentano family, of Italian (Lombard) origin, had settled in the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt in the 17th century and were recognized as Hessian nobles, with close contact to important figures of German Romanticism, including Goethe, Savigny and Arnim. He was related to famous German poets such as Clemens Brentano and Bettina von Arnim. The author Bernard von Brentano was his elder brother. A member of the European Movement Germany, the European Common Assembly and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Brentano was an important figure in the foundation of the European Economic Community. After the Allied occupation statute had been lifted in 1955, he was appointed Foreign Minister of Germany at the suggestion of Chancellor Adenauer. He resigned when Adenauer had to form a coalition government with the Free Democratic Party after the election in 1961.'. Inscribed by Author(s).
