Personal dark-red half-leather bindings with cloth covering in the same red; with gold ornaments on the spine. All in all this is a nice copy in a good condition. But there are some minor shortcomings: The covers are all a little bit worn and volume 3 and 4 each show 2 smaller back spots (we guess) due to the influence of heat. Furthermore the inner joint on the front of volume 2 is ripped open across the entire lengh and in volume 6 the inner front joint is also cracked open but not as much as in volume 2. In volume 3 the page with the frontispiece is loose but the page itself is not damaged and lies in its right possision. In volume one on page 217 outside of the textbox there is small part ripped out (approximatly 1cm in diameter). The bookblocks are cut open by hand but not trimmed, they are i a good clean condition. The Books are from a non-smoking environment. We checked the books if all the illustrations are them - all 71 are at hand and in a fine condition. In contrast to the 1885 edition this one was the first to be published with the illustrations by Letchfort. Sprache: Englisch Dunkelrote, private Halblederbände (auf 5 Bünden und Kopfgoldschnitt) mit Leinenbezügen im selben Farbton und Rückenvergoldung. Reprinted and re-edited from the 1885 publication.

Leather Bound. A set of twelve quarto volumes (26 x 18 cms), each uniformly-bound in 3/4 wine-red leather over woven green cloth, with marbled endpapers and the top edges gilt. All volumes remain tightly-bound, with minor evidence of rubbing to the extremities. Each volume carries a rather nice bookplate of J. H. Burton, depicting a schooner in full sail bordered by mermaids. The bookplate is initialled "HN" (Harold Nelson, famed British bookplate designer, artist, and engraver). Internally, all volumes are in excellent condition and appear to have been seldom read or even opened. The words "Kamashastra Edition" appear at the bottom of the spine of each volume. The magnificent "Library Edition" of The Book of a Thousand Nights and a Night translated from the Arabic by Captain Sir R. F. Burton and reprinted from the original 1885 privately-circulated Kamashastra Society edition. It is edited by Leonard C. Smithers and illustrated by a series of seventy-one inserted original illustrations reproduced from the original pictures in oils specially painted by Albert Letchford.
