Buch Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. 1st Edition. Harper & Brothers. New York. 1940. (1954). 393 pages & index. F-D code on copyright page translates to June 1954. So while this appears to be a 1940 printing on the copyright page it is actually a 1954 printing. FWIW, Harper & Brothers was in existence up until 1962 at which time they changed their name to Harper & Row. So depending on the publisher's name you can get an idea of when they were actually published despite the copyright page stating 1940. As for this copy, binding and hinges are strong and tight. Book is housed in its original attractive DJ. DJ shows a couple of very small chips at foot and crown. Small closed tears. Price on DJ has been removed. Blue cloth stamped in gilt on spine. Minor shelf-rubbing at tips. Light soiling to panels. Endpapers are clean with slight toning in gutter. Author Dr. Arnold Gesell was the first person ever appointed as a school psychologist in the United States. He is also the founder of the Yale Clinic of Child Development; later renamed the Gesell Institute of Child Development, in his honor. Gesell's theories and ideas are commonly known today as Gesell?s Maturational Theory of child development. A solid, attractive copy of the child development classic; by legendary child psychologist Dr. Arnold Gessel. VG/VG.
