(viii), 480pp. Extensive footnotes/references, table of contents to each part printed on lower outer covers, publ. ads. and noteces at rear end of each part. Odd parts 1-6 (first half-year) 11 (new series) of thiss dutch language monthly journal, originally established and edited in 1838, by W.R. Baron Van Hoëvell, after volume 10 by P.Bleeker (et.al.), absorbed by the Journal "Indische Gids in 1903". Van Hoëvell, a dutch protestant minister by origin served on Java and is known as a progressive opponent of the dutch colonial system in Indonesia and a strong promotor of the interests of the Javanese population. After his posting he became an important member of dutch parliament. This odd volume with a great number of multidisciplinary contributions, e.g. Anthropology, Ethology, Culture, means of subsistence, religion and tradition, history politics, economy customs, trade, commerce, colonial literature, public works, civil administration, general education on behalf of europeans and indonesians, reviews of recent publications, topography and geography, geology, journeys, travel tours of duty, military expeditions, the life and customs of Arabs, Chinese and Japanese population groups,.Untrimmed and partly unopened copy in parts as orig. publ.
