Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Hardcover. One of 100 copies printed to mark the centenary of the fine printing movement given birth through a lecture by Walker in 1888. Sir Emery Walker (1851 - 1933) was an English engraver, photographer and printer. He took an active role in many organizations that were at the heart of the Arts and Crafts movement, including the Art Workers Guild, the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, and the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society. Emery Walker was one of the most important figures in the world of fine printing in the 19th century. John Dreyfus described him as combining a thirst for knowledge with a steady concern to apply the highest standards of the past in judging the aesthetic and technical quality of work produced by his contemporaries. This book provides the text of seven letters to him from his friends that help to form a judgment of the man who made outstanding contributions to typography. The friends include William Morris, Talbot B. Reed, Robert Bridges, and George Bernard Shaw among others. Letterpress printed in Times Roman and Palatino types on demy folio Albion. With black and white mounted frontispiece photo of Walker. In brown, cream and red marbled paper boards with cream title label. Very light wear to covers but still about fine. Interior pages fine. Measures 6 x 8 inches. [4] 27 pages. PRI/102023.
