Near fine deep green boards with gilt titles and design to front cover. Has dimmed on the spine. Very handsome edition with gentle use. Inside text is clean and bright with all the essential points for the first edition including the one extra leaf to the rear of the book. Nicely illustrated.

The spine ends and corners have some bumping, rubbing and very beginning fraying. The book covers have some rubbing, and the gilt lettering on the spine has dulled somewhat. The text pages are mostly clean and bright, though there is some toning / burning to pages 70 & 71 where a newspaper was used as a bookmark. All eight illustrations are included and are in bright, clean condition. "The novel's themes include masculinity and male friendship. London discusses various life experiences he has had with alcohol, and at widely different stages in his life.
