Moreux schildert den Werdegang dieser faszinierenden Persönlichkeit, die Verwurzelung im ungarischen Volkstum, die maßgebenden Einflüsse von Beethoven, Strauss, Debussy u. a., die Pianistenlaufbahn und die Entstehung eines schöpferischen Werkes von wachsender Bedeutung, daneben die wissenschaftliche Beschäftigung des Komponisten mit dem alten Volkstanz und Volksliedergut Ungarns. Der bewegte Lebenslauf führt über die Schweiz nach NewYork, wo Bartok auf der Höhe seiner Schaffenskraft einer tückischen Krankheit zum Opfer gefallen ist.
