Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good+. 4to. Pp. 407. Frontis. photo of the Sawyer family. Bibliography ("Source Material and Suggested Reading"). Illustrated throughout with b&w photo reproductions and line drawings. Maps. Endpapers reproduce a front page from the "Pasco Herald." Bound in yellow cloth with orange-metallic lettering stamped on front cover and spine. Offsetting to four pairs of opposing pages due to newspaper clippings germane to Richland region. Those are now in an archival sleeve, laid-in. A trifle soiling to extremities of binding. White Bluffs, named for nearby chalky cliffs, was one of the first Washington Territory pioneer settlements, along the Columbia River. By the 1850s, steamboat service between Portland, Oregon and the area now known as the Tri-Cities commenced, hastening settlement and bolstering development. When the US government funneled untold resources into the region as part of the Manhattan Project, the region took on the qualities of a boomtown, and growth continues today. This title in hardcover is increasingly uncommon.
