Blue cloth black and white letters on the spine and with an embossed design on the front cover of 8 persons in academic regalia arrayed around the initials RS [for Richard Armour]. Not noticeable wear to extremities, cloth clean and bright, else fine with no internal markings. Dust jacket ever so slightly shelfworn and price-clipped. Richard Willard Armour [1906-1989] was an American poet and author who wrote more than 65 books, most of them humor, including the series "It All Started With." Born in San Pedro, CA, Armour attended Pomona College and Harvard University, where he studied with the eminent Shakespearean scholar George Lyman Kittredge and obtained a Ph.D. in English philology. He eventually became Professor of English at Scripps College and the Claremont Graduate School in Claremont, California. Leo Hershfield was a well-known illustrator who illustrated six of Armour's books. For this book, which has the sub-title "A Low View of Higher Education", Armour drew on thirty-seven years of teaching and deaning in colleges and universities in the East, South, Midwest and Far West, as well as in Hawaii and Europe.
