One of 950 copies printed at the Cranium Press. 38 pp.; cloth backed paper covered boards of decoratively patterned vine leaves by Brian Day; frontis portrait illus. of Stevenson. Gabler [I] 38080. The brief memoir comprising Napa Wine was first published in the expanded book edition of The Silverado Squatters printed in London by Chatto & Windus, 1883, having been omitted from the earlier serialization in Century Magazine. Gabler calls it " a significant literary account of the beginning of the Napa Valley Wine industry," and quotes Stevenson's " the smack of California earth shall linger in the palate of your grandson." Scarce paper dust jacket has slight stains and great damage to the spine and is now in a clear protective sleeve but has done its job and protected the book which is in mint condition.
