The original artwork of Mac's cartoon, which featured in the Daily Mail on 3 August 1981. A flustered Margaret Thatcher, surrounded by negative newspaper headlines and with economic calculations overflowing the bin, telephones the Queen, with the caption: "It does take people's minds off things Ma'am - so if Prince Andrew could arrange a quickie this week and Edward the next.". In the background is a picture of Charles and Diana surrounded by bunting - the couple had married on 29 July, a few days before. Pen and ink and watercolour wash on Artline drawing board, 56.5 x 38 cm; Mac's signature logo pasted over image in bottom right corner. With a note on the back "DM. 3.8.81", and a slip on the front on the Daily Mail's notehead, giving the size and location of the cartoon when reproduced in the paper. In black frame with conservation acrylic, framed size: 48.5 x 67 cm Some stripping to reverse of board, a few specks of soiling; in very good condition.
