Orig.-Pp. Zustand: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. 184 Seiten : 150 Farbabb. Sehr gutes Exemplar. / Very good copy. - Initiated in New York by Eric and Suzanne Syz in the early 1980s, the collection was first composed of works created by the artists they met there. With the complicity of Bruno Bischofberger, whom the young couple frequented, they became interested in the major artistic trends of the time, from Neo-Expressionist painting to the legacy of Pop art. It was with paintings by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Julian Schnabel, Francesco Clemente, George Condo, and Andy Warhol that the core of what would become the Syz Collection was formed. In the mid-1990s, on their return to their native Switzerland, Eric Syz founded the Geneva-based financial group that bears his name. Suzanne Syz meanwhile created her jewelry brand, Syz Art Jewels, in the early 2000s. The presence of art in the premises of the SYZ Group has always been a priority: a way of being permanently connected with contemporary creation since, for the Syz couple, there is no evolution without creativity." (Introduction) / Edited and introduced by Nicolas Trembley, this publication offers an extensive documentation of the collection, focusing especially on the way it is displayed at the Syz Group Headquarters. This overview is completed by a conversation with Eric and Suzanne Syz and Nicolas Trembley by the Head of Cultural Service at Le Temps, Emmanuel Grandjean, as well as essays on the principles of the collection and the relationship between contemporary art and corporate culture, emphasizing the many ways artworks find their place in business offices. Buch
19 x 13.5 cm.; edition size unknown; unsigned and unnumbered; Single DVD in multizone format, edited by Nichola Trembley, containing "Title" (1972), "Four Short Films" (1971), and "Six Colorful Inside Jobs" (1977), three seminal but rarely seen films by the groundbreaking west coast Conceptualist John Baldessari, are assembled here for the first time on DVD. The films are built around the same principles as the artist's photographic work, and Baldessari's obsession with the non-link, with fragmentation and gaps, is all the more striking in moving pictures. His images do not arrive in a narrative progression, but appear as a succession of near-still, suspended moments, autonomous but integrated, for which it is up to the spectator to build a structure. "Title" is one of Baldessari's most radical projects, a juxtaposition of minimal images without hierarchy or direction, and particularly pointedly so because the subject is a conventional film, broken into its component parts. First come the objects, the characters, the landscapes, then the frames associating two shapes, and finally the start of an action, of a dialogue. Baldessari's splicing and categorizing reveals the tricks of cinematic space-time. "Six Colorful Inside Jobs" shows a room being painted in six different colors, each corresponding to a day of the week, leaving the artist a comic figure, and "Four Short Films" is the product of a similar ironic twist, a free and absurd association between time, matter and objects. An essential document. -- publisher's statement.
