Buch Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. Jacket by Michael R. Carter (illustrator). 1st Edition. First published in 1953, this is a first revised edition, first impression of 1974. Some edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners very slightly rubbed, lamination lifting slightly along spine, spine very slightly faded, not price clipped (£3.25), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 186pp. This evocative study brings us back to the world of Buchan, Sapper and Dornford Yates, the world of the British Empire, in which leisured London clubmen waged a peacetime Great Game of war against cads, crooks and beastly foreigners. The rules of the game were those of the public school, the stakes usually high, often Civilization itself. In these pages we can follow Hannay from Portland Place to Galloway and to the Black Sea, Bulldog Drummond from Mayfair to his last round, in the airship, with Carl Peterson, and Berry & Co from White Ladies in Hampshire to the Pyrenees and beyond. When it was first published 'Clubland Heroes' was recognized as a classic of its kind. A nostalgic look at a lost world, by journalist, advertising executive, P. G. Wodehouse scholar and author Richard Alexander Usborne (1910-2006). Quite a scarce book.
