Buch Erstausgabe Signiert
Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. 1st Edition. 'Papers Deriving from the Harvard University Faculty Seminar on the Coleman Report.' Stated First Edition along with the appropriate Random House number line down to 2. Signed and inscribed by Daniel Moynihan to Daniel Bell and Pearl Kazin on the first front end paper. The inscription reads 'For Dan and Pearl, Puzzles! Daniel, Feb 19th.' So, as you can see from the photo Senator Moynihan's signature is basically illegible. It's also not the way he typically signed his name. However, two things confirm for me that it is his signature, 1) there's another title for sale, which Moynihan also co-wrote, with his signed inscription to Irving Kristol and his wife, and there the signature is very, very similar. And 2) I found an inscription in another book which is dated identically to the scribble of '19th' in mine. And, in fact, the book inscribed to Irving Kristol has the same oddly shaped '9' in the date. So, this is a terrific Association Copy. 'Bell wa grouped with Irving Kristol, Nathan Glazer, Daniel Patrick Moynihan and Robert Nisbet, among others, as a member of 'the powerful party of intellectuals' who banded together to challenge liberal orthodoxy in the 1970s.'---Sam Tanenhaus. Daniel Bell's wife, Pearl Kazin (sister of Alfred Kazin), was a well-regarded literary critic and author. She was also the lover of Dylan Thomas prior to his death and prior to her marriage to Daniel Bell. This book is in excellent condition. You can see the covers in the photos. They are exceptionally clean. The gilt lettering on the spine is nicely bright. The cover edges and corners are in excellent shape. The page edges are clean. The top page edge is a lighter shade of brown. The book is square and the spine is straight. The binding is very solid from cover to cover with nicely tight pages and nicely tight covers as well. The white inside covers and end papers are clean and free of wear. That accurately describes all the pages. Scrolling through, I'm not finding any instances of soiling. I'm not finding any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And the signed inscription is the only writing to be found anywhere in the book. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It too is very clean. I don't see any tears. There is a tiny sliver of a scuff at the top edge of the spine. The flaps are in very good shape, very clean. There is a small, mild crease on the front flap. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. I have always had it in a fitted protective cover. Inscribed by Author(s).
