Das Faksimile mit 10 ganzseitigen Miniaturen (davon 4 Evangelistenporträts), 13 Incipitseiten, 10 Kanontafeln, 5 ganzseitigen Initialseiten und zahlreichen kleineren Schmuckinitialen, der Kommentarband mit schwarz-weißen und farbigen Abbildungen und der beiliegenden Klarsichtfolie zur Farbuntersuchung. Das um das Jahr 800 entstandene und umfangreich illuminierte Book of Kells stellt ein Meisterwerk insularer Buchmalerei dar und wurde im Jahr 2011 zum Weltkulturerbe erklärt. Es enthält neben den vier Evangelien einen von Eusebius von Cäsarea zusammengestellten Kanon über die Konkordanzverzeichnisse und besitzrechtliche Urkunden des Klosters von Kells. Vorderer Beschlag der Schmuckkassette oben mit kleiner Verfärbung, Schuber des Kommentarbandes mit wenigen, leichten Druckspuren. Sehr gutes Exemplar. Facsimile volume: original white leather binding with four raised bands in original decorative case, magnificently decorated with gold and blind embossing and metal fittings. Commentary volume: Original half leather with black embossed title on spine in original slipcase. Number 910 of 1480 copies. Edition in German [commentary] and Latin [facsimile]. The facsimile with 10 full-page miniatures (including 4 portraits of the Evangelists), 13 incipit pages, 10 canon tables, 5 full-page initial pages and numerous smaller decorative initials, the commentary volume with black-and-white and color illustrations and the enclosed transparent sheet for color examination. The extensively illuminated Book of Kells, created around the year 800, is a masterpiece of Insular illumination and was declared a World Heritage document in 2011. In addition to the four gospels, it contains a canon compiled by Eusebius of Caesarea on the lists of concordance and ownership documents of the monastery of Kells. Front fitting of the decorative case with small discoloration at the top, slipcase of the commentary volume with a few, slight pressure marks. Very good copy. Sprache: deutsch und latein.
