Buch
Cloth. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. 279 pp. with B/W illustrations. Usual ex-library markings. DJ in mylar. ". first published in 1913. In it, Lady Gregory describes the founding of the Irish Literary Theatre and the Abbey Theatre as seen through her eyes; the fights over 'The Playboy' in Ireland and the USA; and with the Establishment over Shaw's play "The Showing Up of Blanco Posnet." It is one of the classic works on the movement and as it has been out of print for over fifty years, it has become one of the most sought after of Lady Gregory's works on the rare book market. This new enlarged edition therefore fills a considerable need. It includes a great deal of material that Lady Gregory was unable for various reasons to include in her original edition. There are hitherto unpublished documents about the Abbey's first trip to America and the occasion when the Abbey players were arrested, and also a number of interviews with Lary Gregory in the USA, two articles, statements about the Abbey Theatre issued by Lady Gregory and W. B. Yeats, an extremely interesting letter from Lady Gregory to her publisher which she kept inserted in her own copy of this book, and finally, the first complete printing since its publication in 1899 of the rare pamphlet 'Souls for Gold.'".

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good Minus. Fifth Edition. Octavo. Navy blue cloth-covered boards with gilt facsimile signature of Lady Gregory to front. Scuffing to boards. Robins Egg blue endpapers. Navy blue publisher's topstain. Nice high quality buff paper with lovely, readable font. 272 pp. Solidly bound. Isabella Augusta, Lady Gregory (néePersse); 15 March 1852 - 22 May 1932)[1] was an Anglo-Irish dramatist, folklorist and theatre manager. With William Butler Yeats and Edward Martyn, she co-founded the Irish Literary Theatre and the Abbey Theatre, and wrote numerous short works for both companies. Lady Gregory produced a number of books of retellings of stories taken from Irish mythology. Born into a class that identified closely with British rule, she turned against it. Her conversion to cultural nationalism, as evidenced by her writings, was emblematic of many of the political struggles to occur in Ireland during her lifetime. Lady Gregory is mainly remembered for her work behind the Irish Literary Revival." (Wikipedia).
