Buch Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. 1st Edition. HARDBACK - A very good or better book tightly bound in the publisher's green cloth boards with black lettering to the spine. The boards are very clean indeed with sharp corners that are free of any bumping. There is mild pushing to the spine tips with a slither of colour loss to the base of the spine, around one millimeter of colour loss in total. Internally, the pages are clean with just a few light foxing to the page blocks, with a little foxing to the first six pages. There is a small owner name in black ink to the top corner of the third page, but free of any other names or inscriptions. The dust wrapper is a fourteenth impression, and is in very good condition with no fading to the spine, but with a small chip to the spine tip, also with rubbing to the corners of the front and rear flap folds. The dust wrapper's has a few old tape marks to the verso of the wrapper that do not show through to the front panels. These tape remnants may be removable with a little care. Overall, a clean dust wrapper, with the publisher's printed price of 12s.6d.net. present to the front flap.

Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. J.R.R. Tolkien (illustrator). 2nd Edition. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. A Very Good copy of an extremely scarce early Hobbit. The 1958 printing, of the 2nd Edition (1951), or the 10th printing overall (1937). This copy is a stated 10th impression from the dustjacket, published by Houghton Mifflin from sheets imported from Great Britain. From the identification key by Steven Frisby, this stated 10th impression, is indeed the 10th impression. The Very Good only dustjacket is not priced or clipped, noted as printed in Great Britain. One of probably only 1000 imported from Allen & Unwin, lacking the printing history on title verso, to help them circumvent the import restrictions and US copyright laws. The book features the original dustjacket with the Mountains and Dragon design by the author. The dustjackets has numerous tears, a large mostly closed tear to the top of the back panel being the worst. There is a bit of loss to the top of the spine and the lower 1/4 inch is missing, some loss at the tips of the flap folds. White the flap folds are showing the crease with some color loss. The boards show minor soiling and marking, with a little shelfwear noted. The text block is clean, with some scattered foxing, previous owners name, to front free endpaper (map) and first blank page. No bumped corners, lightly soiled boards. The dustjacket is not price clipped and has no price markings. A collectable clean copy, one of the only issues with the pale green boards stamped in blue. Contains the full color frontispiece "The Hill: Hobbiton-across-the Water", as well as the original line drawings by Tolkien. The maps are in excellent condition, with the red and black ink still showing clear and bright against the endpapers. Both maps have some foxing, along with the previous owners name and date. A highly collectable copy, hard to find in it's original dustjacket. Very Good / Very Good.

Hardcover. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Very Good. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien Ninth Impression George Allen & Unwin Ltd 1957. A very fine copy. No previous owner's inscriptions or marks. Contents free of foxing, covers are bright and completely unblemished. No toning to spine and no bumping or rubbing to corners. In original VG dust jacket. Very light (easily erasable) pencil annotations to flaps. Not price clipped. "The Hobbit" is a classic fantasy novel written by J.R.R. Tolkien. It serves as a prelude to Tolkien's more extensive work, "The Lord of the Rings." The story follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who is thrust into an epic adventure when the wizard Gandalf and a group of dwarves enlist him as a burglar to help them reclaim their homeland from the dragon Smaug. As Bilbo and his companions travel through Middle-earth, they face numerous challenges, encounter strange creatures, and unearth a magical ring that will play a crucial role in Tolkien's later works. "The Hobbit" is a timeless tale of bravery, friendship, and personal growth, set in a richly detailed and immersive fantasy world. It is beloved for its charming storytelling and remains a classic in the fantasy genre.

Buch
Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fair. 2nd Edition. This is a very nice copy of a rare, early (1954) American edition of Tolkien's The Hobbit. 6th impression overall (the 2nd printing of the second edition). Features Tolkien's original illustrations of mountains and a dragon on the dust jacket, as found in the original UK editions, as well as a full color frontispiece "The Hill: Hobbiton-across-the Water." The copy is difficult to date on account of the lack of printing history on the title verso. This is likely because it is one of only 1,000 copies imported from Allen & Unwin in order to circumvent copyright and import restrictions. Other editions points include: advertisements for Farmer Giles of Ham and the Lord of the Rings on the half title verso; a 'B' at page 17 with letters incrementing every 16 pages; an asterisk on the bottom of p.307; and no advertisements after the last page. Despite some minor flaws, this is a very good copy of a rare edition: some wear at top and bottom edges of the spine; corners somewhat bumped; a bit of rubbing and soiling on the outer cloth boards. Some light soiling on the maps of the inside pastedowns and a mark left by a previous sticker on the front free endpaper. However, the textblock is clean and unmarked. Original, unclipped dust jacket reads "Sixth Impression" on the front inside flap. Dust jacket is chipped, creased, and lacking at various places (see photos). Note especially that the spine is completely detached in a clean line on the left side (this has been left unrepaired but carefully placed in a mylar wrapper for future owner to fix or leave as-is according to preference). Happy to send additional photos to prospective buyers.

Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Near Fine. Early (very likely a later impression of the second) American edition from English sheets, stated "Thirteenth Impression" on front flap, no price on jacket. Frontispiece in color, endpaper maps in black and red, other illustrations in black and white. Light glue shadow along bottom of the boards, still a clean and near fine copy in slightly soiled, near fine dust jacket. The second American edition was first published in 1951, evidence from the book's flaps and text suggests, this is an issue from 1961. The first book set in Tolkien's Middle Earth, a prelude to *The Lord of the Rings*, and the point of introduction to the richest and most popular mythology ever conceived by a single individual. Not in *Hammond* A3d.

Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Dust Jacket Included. 1st Edition. This is the 1st US Edition, 1st state. SD. NAP. With the bowing hobbit on the title page; chapter VII mis-identified as chapter VI on page 118; and pastedown maps are reverse of order shown on the "List of Illustrations" page. The four color and nine B&W illustrations are present. Good, in a new facsimile dustjacket. Typical flaws as seen in such a well-loved, well-read book (photos attached). There is wear at the spine extremities, and at the corner tips; and some wear along the front outer hinge. The spine is sun-darkened, but the lettering appears unaffected. There is rubbed surface soil to the boards; with a few small stains, and two thin ~3/8" pen marks on the rear board. The front hinge is split between the first blank and the frontis; shaken. The rear hinge is cracked. The page edges are typically age-darkened, and the endpapers are slightly so. There is a tasteful bookplate on the first blank (with a previous owners name and 1938 date). There is a small, light stain at the fore-edge of the reverse of the frontis (not visible in the frontis illustration). There is a fairly light stain along the fore-edge of the rear flyleaf (visible only on the blank side; not on the map face). The facsimile DJ is new. A scarce edition in any condition. ; 27D; 8" x 6"; 310 pages.

Buch Erstausgabe
Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fine. 1st Edition. Condition: Near-Fine. 1st edition: 4th impression, so stated on the limitation page. The only real defect on the book is a small stain on the text block fore edge. The book is very clean inside and out, and the covers and spine are clean and bright. The text is also clean and bright. The maps of Lonely Mountain in the front and Wilderland in the back are also clean and bright, with just a tiny hint of age browning on the edge of the Wilderland free end paper. A 1-inch tear has been closed and repaired at the bottom of pps. 127-128, and the front free endpaper map page has 2 very slight creases, one on the upper right corner, and another on the following blank page. The book has been conserved, and Tolkien's famous original jacket has in addition been expertly restored to near-pristine condition. The 4th impression was the last printing of Tolkien's original story, before his revisions to the book in the early 1950s to more closely comport with the story of The Lord of the Rings, then in progress.
