Buch Erstausgabe
Soft cover. Zustand: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Large 8vo, printed wrappers, detached and edge chipped and stained some, 91pp. Ancient oval library stamp on title page only. The entirety disbound, the paper age-browned and with a few leaves bearing corner chips. Thomas Williams was the grandson of Eunice Williams, the noted Deerfield Captive, and he became, in 1777, Chief at Caughnawgea, getting involved, in concert with the British, on some raids (with Burgoyne, at Ticonderoga, Bennington and Saratoga), and, later, in 1780, at Machias ME. When the Revolutionary War was over, he was involved with Native Americans' negotiations with the state of New York, and he signed the Treaty of 1796 leading to the establishment of the St. Regins Indian Reserve. He and others of the tribe fought during the War of 1812 and was present at the Battle of Plattsburg. The present biography written by his son is pretty much the only substantial, early account of the father, although this author was rather delusionally inclined during that decade of the 1850's and that behavior does make this book perhaps an exaggerated biography. An altogether rare oddity. BIB. MUNSELLIANA p. 99. TPL 1084. FIELD 1670. HOWES W-451. One of only 200 copies printed, and, alas, a Good copy.
