Erstausgabe
First Edition (& 1st printing). Large Folio (320 x 210 mm), bound in contemporary full calf, small ornaments and borders in blind on front & rear covers, the spine with raised bands, leather title label lettered "HOLT'S REPORTS". [2], iii, [blank] [16] (A Table of General Titles), 762, [90]pp (A Table of the Principal Matters). Boards scuffed, worn at corners; hinges slightly cracking but holding very strong; foxing to endleaves, very clean and fresh throughout. Unusually (and smartly!) the text is arranged alphabetically by type of case for great ease of use. Sir John Holt (1642-1710) was an English lawyer who served as Lord Chief Justice of England from 17 April 1689 to his death. He is frequently credited with playing a major role in ending the prosecution of witches in English law.
