Comprising sixteen volumes out of the eighteen published so far, the series being still in progress. Volume I-XIV (volume I in two parts) and XVI; Lacking vols. XV, XVII, and XVIII. This is now the most substantial of the Victoria County History.Edited by Ralph Pugh from 1949 to 1977, Elizabeth Crittall, and others.The 'Victoria History of the Counties of England' is an English history project beginning in 1899 with the aim of creating an extensive encyclopaedic history of each county in England, dedicated to Queen Victoria. This edition published for the Institute of Historical Research. The first VCH volume was published in 1901, and there are now over two hundred and thirty volumes.The 'Wiltshire Victoria County History' saw its first publication in 1957, and last in 2011. This set comprises the first edition of the volumes included, published from 1957 to 1999.Illustrated with numerous monochrome illustrations and maps, some in colour and the occasional folding. Collated, complete. Vol. I Part II, and VIII-XIV, and XVI include the unclipped dust wrapper.With the publisher's compliment's slip loosely inserted to volume XIII. In the original publisher's gilt decorated cloth binding. Externally excellent with only minor shelf wear and some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. With some minor marking to the rear board of volume II. A some damp marking throughout the front and rear boards as well as the spine of volumes IX and XIII. With 'Westwick House' bookplates to the front pastedowns. The dust wrapper is very smart and unclipped, with some minor shelf wear and chipping, and some tidemarks to the spine to volumes VIII-X, and some sunning to the spine to each volume. Internally, firmly bound. With the occasional light mark to the odd leaf, although, generally, the pages are bright and clean throughout. Illustrated with numerous monochrome illustrations and maps throughout, some in colour. Collated, complete. Very Good Indeed. book.
