"'Painting the Divine' explores New World images of the Virgin Mary that portray some of the events in her life, as well as examples of apparitions unique to various locales in the Americas. Iconography seen in these artworks tells a story that mixes religion, culture, and geography in ways unique to their regions. In addition, it examines pieces produced by New Mexican artists who developed a unique hybrid style with Spanish colonists, though they were separated by large geographic distances. It also explores the ways that contemporary Hispanic artists have adapted and infused Marian imagery with their own historical perspectives, stylistic traditions, and cultural values." - Publisher. Buch
Trade Paperback. Zustand: Used - Very Good. 'Painted Dialogue' celebrates in the form of an artistic retrospective the past twenty-plus years of paintings of Michael Von Helms. A non-figurative abstractionist, Von Helms describes his paintings as dialogs between his inner self and a higher power. Upon entering his studio, Von Helms forgets everything but that which is before him and draws no references from anything but the canvases on which he paints. He surrenders himself to the journey for he says, 'In the end it is not about attaining, but more about attempting. In my attempt I come face to face with the old realities of myself, and then, through 'hard payment, ' rearrange and reconfigure simultaneously my inner self and the two dimensional surface of the work in progress.' The evolution of Von Helms's work has moved from the straight, simple yet dramatic petroglyph-like images of the '80s into the sophisticated, energetic bold-color canvasses of the '90s. Today he may repaint a single canvas as many as five times, giving his paintings a surface of thick and thin overlays with a palpable sense of edge and energy. Von Helms says, 'When my process is pushed hard enough, long enough, the work and I seem to turn around a point and slip into a state of resolution. The curtain comes down, the play is finished. For the moment, all confusion, unknowing, and tension has been exhausted. Darkness is made visible. The emotions within me, the world outside, and the painting are all, at last, united. There is communication. It becomes a kind of salvation.' A celebration of the art of Michael Von Helms.

Buch
Trade Paperback. Zustand: New. The fourth title in the innovative New Mexico Artist Series, '3-D art/techn' spotlights once again the extraordinary art and artistic life in New Mexico today. '3-D art/techn' explores the work of more than thirty artists based in New Mexico who use traditional skills in non-traditional ways or who use non-traditional materials in traditional ways. Recognizing that many people who work this way produce three-dimensional work, the book will focus on those who produce free-standing objects and those who may work on the wall but project out from it as well. Ranging from metal, wood, stone, clay and fiber to assemblage and glass, these works of art pose post-modern questions about modernist considerations of form and function. Among those featured are Tom Waldron, Barbara Zusman, Gail Rieke, and Tracy Krumm.

Buch
Hardcover. Zustand: Used - Very Good. Linda J Ging, born in 1941 in Hutchinson, Kansas, is an American transcendentalist who has worked in quiet obscurity for nearly thirty years. Her paintings, rooted in the immense spaces and changing skies of rural Kansas, are not landscapes. They are not about things. They are dust, astral dust. Linda Ging rigorously eradicates all suggestions of place, material existence, and especially her own presence. She brushes on color washes in scores of translucent layers with a touch so light as to seem uncanny. She never arrives at opacity. Some suspect the use of an airbrush. The suggestion is as preposterous to her as using the wings of insects. Her mature work pushes abstraction beyond Abstract Expressionism's cult of personality, beyond the geometry of Rothko's shimmering squares. Her selfless art, 'beyond is and is not,' as the poet Rumi wrote, explores the gorgeous mysteries of nothingness, the rewards of uncertainty, the marvelous fullness of the Void. Linda Ging's paintings are loved and collected worldwide. This first publication of her work reproduces in color more than forty of her mature pieces. It includes an essay by Eugenia Parry and a foreword by Stuart Ashman. The first publication of the ethereal work of abstract painter Linda J Ging.

Buch
Hardcover. Zustand: Used - Very Good. 'Humanlandscapes' is a special fusion of talent by physician and photographer P. Miller and poet Peter Crane, producing a lyrical and unabashed tribute to the human body, beauty, the feminine, and the natural world. The core of the book is comprised of images of the body in many different Southwestern settings as well as in the studio, and in both color and black-and-white. The oversized book allows the images to be presented elegantly and each to be paired with a poem specifically written for it, setting the tone and expanding the mood. 'Humanlandscapes' is divided into four sections, each addressing a different aspect of the human experience. The images come from an awareness of the human body to the spiritual and natural forces surrounding it. What is the character of the feminine, and what does it mean to be human? The images and poetry lead us through a journey of discovery to celebrate both the physical and spiritual parts of the self. This unique book brings together rich images and text in a tapestry of visual and emotional rewards. Book has minor shelf wear.
