Biografía del autor:
The Canadian edition was greatly aided by three student researchers who sifted through large quantities of material and helped to determine which information was most interesting, most relevant, and most motivating to Canadian students. Oriana Pokorny, a Bachelor of Education student (Teachers College), focused on how concepts and information could be presented most effectively from a pedagogical perspective. Rebecca Barker, an Environmental Science and Physical Geography student, had a special interest in developing topics related to spatial distribution, such as climate, soils, and natural resources. Natasha Dombrowski, a Biology student, was keen to pursue themes related to life, health, ecosystems, and species at risk. All three acted as a panel of university-age guidance about how the book could most effectively stimulate students to learn about environmental issues, concepts, and solutions. Dave Hackett has been teaching environmental science, ecology, and animal behaviour courses at Nipissing University in North Bay, Ontario, for 20 years. He has been presented with the Chancellors Award for Excellence in Teaching, and he has been recognized in every edition of Macleans annual guide that identifies the popular professors at Canadian universities. Dave received an H.B.Sc. in Fish and Wildlife Zoology from the University of Guelph. He received an M.Sc. in Biology from Laurentian University, and a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Alberta. He has been involved in a wide variety of research and conservation projects in Canada spanning forest, lake, Prairie, Arctic, and alpine ecosystems. As well, for seven years, Dave was a member of a CIDA-sponsored team that was chosen to deliver environmental education to government officials and teachers on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. Dave has a long-standing interest in the impact of human systems on the natural world. He is currently involved in projects evaluating human impacts on amphibians, furbearers, and loons. Author of LIVING IN THE ENVIRONMENT, ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE, SUSTAINING THE EARTH and ESSENTIALS OF ECOLOGY, G. Tyler Miller, Jr. has written more than 50 textbooks for introductory courses in environmental science and chemistry since 1970. Since 1975, Miller's books have been the most widely used textbooks for environmental science in the United States and throughout the world. They have been used by more than two million students and have been translated into six languages. Miller has a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia and has received two honorary doctorate degrees for his contributions to environmental education. Currently, he is the President of Earth Education and Research.
