Reseña del editor:
War Stories-- Down on Stanford’s Farm A version of Stanford University’s History You have never read! Over one hundred years of campus life, researched and written by Captain of Police Investigations, Raoul K. Niemeyer (Retired) While some content may be objectionable due to violence, including murders, rapes and bad behavior (certainly not for children, the straight laced or faint of heart!), the majority of this read is historical with a humorous slant. Life for Stanford students has always been a unique experience: Tradition, the bitter Stanford-Cal rivalry, fraternity misbehavior, the protests and riots during the 60s-70s, huge events such as Super Bowl XIX, World Cup and Olympic Soccer, the Gorbachev and Queen Elizabeth visits plus many more, are described herein.
Biografía del autor:
Although born in CA, Raoul Kalani Niemeyer, grew-up in Hawaii. Raoul was fortunate to receive a solid primary education in Catholic Schools. In his junior year, Raoul was accepted to Punahou School, established in 1841, one of the oldest (and best) schools in America. It was there that Niemeyer lettered in football, and in the classroom honed his penchant for writing under the tutelage of excellent mentors, as well as from his Dad, Irv. After graduating in 1956, Raoul enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was trained as a jet engine mechanic. Upon discharge, he got a job building armored personnel vehicles (M-113s) at FMC, in San Jose, CA. It was there that he met a colleague, Dan Montgomery, who was about to be hired as a police officer in City of Los Gatos, CA. (Dan later relocated to Westminster, CO where he was Chief of Police until he retired in 2007 after 47 years of service!) Dan suggested that Niemeyer become an officer, too, because he was “big, tough, and had the gift of gab”—apparently, the primary prerequisites back in the day. . . Being a cop was the last thing Raoul thought he’d ever be. . . After a year of study and testing, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office swore-in Raoul K. Niemeyer, pinned a badge on him and sent him out to police the mean streets of San Jose. Deputy Niemeyer worked in patrol at night and attended San Jose State College during the day; he received a Bachelor’s Degree and continued post graduate studies in Public Administration. When promoted, Sergeant Niemeyer became the department’s first Training Officer. As an editor, he wrote many historical police-related articles for the Sheriff’s Journal. Raoul also authored a booklet to celebrate the 50 year history of the California Safe and Burglary Association. Raoul K. Niemeyer was hired as a Captain for the Stanford University Department of Public Safety in 1974; his mandate was to recruit, hire and train a cadre of deputized officers. This is partially what this book is about; however, Stanford University itself is very rich in history and tradition, which he has woven into this work. Captain Niemeyer retired in 1999, and now lives in Northern California with his wife, Pennie, and their beloved Bichon Frises, “BeBe” and “Harley.”
