“Choosing Life” follows Joe Akers through his first and second chances at living. His first was dedicated to the pursuit of the party. When he is told the party will soon be over he decides to clean up his act. He discovers a strange joy he didn’t expect in a sober lifestyle despite the constant pain from illness and his longing to satisfy his addiction. Josh Turner is young and abused. At every turn he has enemies waiting a turn to take a swipe at him. He hates life and is on a one way path to utter self destruction. He finds himself in a coma due to a violent attack. He welcomes his end. Joe stalls the inevitable for a short while, but ultimately loses his battle with illness. To his surprise he actually wakes up from his death bed to find he has exchanged places with young Josh. Now young again he’s confused on whether he has been given a blessing or has been cursed. He finds Josh’s life a nightmare of fear and chaos. To make matters worse his addictions are constantly at the forefront of his mind.

Joe Ackers was dead. That fact was undeniable. After all, he saw his own body. He even attended his own funeral. He wasn't a disembodied spirit floating above the crowd unseen and unheard. Instead he was standing there among the crowd flesh and bone as alive as anyone else. Not that he deserved a second chance. He hadn't been bad man in life, but he was far from a good one. By all rights he should have been lying in that casket rotting away until the devil himself came to collect his due. Instead it seemed the Fates had another plan for Joe. After his death he found himself in the body of a perfectly healthy at risk youth. The Fates however weren’t being all benevolent and kind. The new life Joe inherited was a living nightmare. The kid’s life included an abusive parent, a slew of bullies at school, teachers that hated him, and just for good measure he had drug dealers who were convinced he stole from them. Regardless of what the Fates had in mind for Joe he had no other choice but to make the best of his newly inherited recycled life.
