Reseña del editor:
Linda Finstad spent 2 years hanging out in pastures with herds of horses, both wild and domestic observing, photographing and documenting their behavior. Her goal was to unravel the mysteries of how they communicate with each other and why they do what they do. It was very important to stay, completely objective and not to jump to any conclusions. Her “Horse Watching” research was truly enlightening. However it also posed some interesting questions, like: Are horses self-aware? Why they form close friendships? Do Stallions have a preference when it comes to mares? How wild stallions "steal" a mare from an existing herd? Are horses capable of creating a "game plan" to get what they want? Can horses count? Can horses smell fear? What smells are horses either attracted to or repulsed by? Do horses see in color and if so which colors do they react to? How do mares teach their foals what is good to eat and what to avoid? To answer these questions and many more Linda has designed a number of experiments. The results of which are revealed in her book The Horse watcher "answers to questions you never knew you had" Even the most seasoned of horsemen are surprised by the results. Many riding schools and trainers are using this compact book as a reference to teach their students equine behaviour and communication. Although their main focus is to teach their clients how to ride they also see the benefit of expanding their knowledge and including equine behaviour in their lesson programs.
Biografía del autor:
Born in rural England, Linda, learned to ride a pony before she could ride a two wheel bicycle, competed at county level shows in England with show ponies and hunters. Linda knew she wanted to earn her living in the horse industry so she completed the formal training to become a B.H.S.A.I, and went on to train other equine competitors and riders. She immigrated to Canada from England almost 20 years ago, and felt she would like a change of career path so Linda went back to school to learn the art and science of photography. With the intention of using her extensive equestrian background and her newly acquired skills, to earn a living photographing horses This new direction took her to equine events and farms throughout Alberta over the past 20 years she has photographed thousands of horses in all kinds of disciplines and situations. Linda’s photographic contribution to preserving Alberta’s Equine Heritage was acknowledged by her majesty the Queen of England. This extensive body of work is now housed in the Provincial Archive Museum and is known as “The Horses of Alberta” exhibit. Linda has been "Watching" horses all her life so putting together this collection of observations and images seemed only natural. Her intention is to help others appreciate their natural behavior and gain a better understanding of their ways. This book is part of a very special "Fund raising" opportunity that generates money for Pony Club and 4 H groups School groups Missions trips and Christian organizations For more details please visit www.thehorsewatcher.com
