Binding tight and solid. Long before there was today's well known Class I carrier there was another Norfolk Southern Railway. In a weird twist, the road had to be dissolved so the merging Norfolk & Western and Southern could use its name. The original NS dated to the post-Civil War period as a small line intent on connecting northeastern North Carolina with the Norfolk, Virginia area.
