About 6,500 further names have been subsequently added in supplements taking the work up to 1985. This massive body of information is now presented in shortened versions. Roman times to the mid-1980s, this new edition of the Concise DNB (previous editions extended only up to 1970) briefly profiles the lives of more than 36,000 men and women of diverse origins and walks of life, including many from the Empire and the Commonwealth.
