Which is just what happened. The truck engine began to have more bad Spells and finally Mr. Griggs was obliged to st0p at Norristown at a garage. After one brief inspection the expert mechanic said, Your engine trouble is serious. Mr. Griggshelped with the work for four hours, taking out only time enough to eat lunch with Paul and Mary. It was four in the afternoon when the engine once more purred along as engines Should. The party drove out of Norristown on Highway 202 headed for Lancaster.
Mr. Griggs stepped on the accelerator and pushed the truck Speed to the limit allowed by law. To Mary and Paul this was a thrill, but their father did not enjoy the Situation. The sky was becoming overcast with clouds, and a cold wind had come up. It blew into the cab of the truck in Spite of closed doors and the children began buttoning up their coats to keep warm.
IS it going to be awfully late when we get to Pittsburgh, Dad? Shouted Paul over the roar of the engine and the wind.
Mr. Griggs nodded. He was sorry that he had brought the children along on the trip. It was not only going to be very late when they arrived in Pittsburgh; he knew he would have to stop somewhere along the road. He could tell by the way the cold was biting through his own leather coat that Paul and Mary must be getting very, very cold. Three times he pulled up'at wayside eating houses and took the children in for cups of hot chocolate and a few moments in a warm room. At the third stop both children were so cold that they could hardly hold the cups.
