Buchbeschreibung Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Good. First Edition. On 26 January 1975, almost twelve months before the British Solomon Islands Protectorate became an internally self-governing state, the Church of Melanesia was inaugurated as an autonomous province in the Anglican Communion. The purpose of this study is to examine the process by which the religion of the Church of England was extended to the islands of the southwest Pacific through the agency of the New Zealand-based Melanesian Mission. It begins with the first Anglican missionary voyage in 1849 and concludes with the Japanese invasion of the region in 1942, which remains a fundamental dividing-line in twentieth-century Melanesian history. 342 pages.
