Soft cover. Zustand: Good. Published in 1978, while punk was still a contemporary youth movement, the book documents its fashion, hairstyles, makeup, attitudes and personalities. Hennessy draws partly on her encounters with punk fans while making television programmes for ATV, including Punk and Acne Go Together. The book controversially places photographs of punks alongside images of Indigenous and non-Western peoples described in the publication using the period term "primitive peoples," drawing visual comparisons between punk adornment and ritual or cultural adornment. This framing reflects a distinctly 1970s Western perspective and is likely of interest today as much for what it reveals about the period's representation of other cultures as for its documentation of punk itself.
