This volume offers a logical analysis of the problem of global sustainability. Providing an overview of ecosystem sustainability, the authors introduce the concept of complex adaptive systems, a discipline that is transforming our understanding of the ecological and socio-economic networks that shape our world. Bridging theory and practice, the authors link analysis to a programme for change. They explain why the transition to a more sustainable way of life means abandoning the search for simple solutions and adopting a systems perspective in which problems and solutions are multidimensional, dynamic and evolving. The authors argue that macroeconomic policy is the key to the transition and that an agenda for fundemental regulatory and fiscal reform must be combined with a new framework for decision-making.
