Lehrs, of K6nigsberg, and he has besides many warm adherents, whose number is constantly increasing. Acknowledging the great work which they had done in their study of the ancient writers on Rhythmic and Metric, he proceeded, using these results.

Dr. Schmidt's "Leitfaden in der Rhythmik und Metrik der Classischen Spraqhen," of which this book is a translation, was issued in 1869 from the press of F. C. W. Vogel at Leipzig. It is a compendious statement for the use of schools of the principles established in his larger work, "Die Kunstformen der Griechischen Poesie und ihre Bedeutung," the first volume of which had already been published when the "Leitfaden" appeared. "Die antike Compositionslehre, aus den Meisterwerken der griechischen Dichtkunst erschlossen. Text und Schemata der lyrischen Partien bei Sophokles und Aristophanes." Leipzig. F. C. W. Vogel. 1869. Pages xx, 532, CCCLXXV. Large 8vo.
"Die Monodien und Wechselgesänge der attischen Tragödie. Text und Schemata der lyrischen Partien bei Euripides." Leipzig. F. C. W. Vogel. 1871. Pages xxx, 170, DXXXVII. Large 8vo.

Paperback. Zustand: New. Print on Demand. This book presents the principles of rhythm and meter underlying poetry and music. It presents these ideas in relation to the Greek and Latin languages, explaining their use of vowel articulation, quantity, accentuation, intonation, and pausing within the broader historical context of linguistics. The author, a leading expert in classical philology, argues that correct vowel articulation, as well as accurate quantity, intonation, and accentuation, are essential to fully understanding the rhythmic and metric forms of classical languages. Greater understanding of these elements unlocks the musicality and artistic complexity of these languages, providing a deeper appreciation of the works written in them.
