Inhaltsangabe

This book provides a comprehensive and state-of-the-art overview of simulation development, technologies, and implementation, including real-world examples and results followed by a preview of what’s on the horizon that will further revolutionize the industry.  More than a handful of books have been written on the use of simulations for training purposes, but this book focuses solely on simulations in employee selection contexts (e.g., hiring, promotion), making it a truly unique and valuable resource for both practitioners and academics. The science and practice of employee selection has advanced at a steady pace over the past two or three decades. However, recent advancements in both technology and assessment methods have been the catalyst for an evolutionary leap in the use of simulations in this area.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Dr. Fetzer is the Global Director of Advanced Assessment Technologies at CEB, the leading global provider of pre-employment assessments and talent measurement solutions.  In this role, he is responsible for leading teams of I-O psychology and simulation/multimedia experts that design and develop leading-edge simulations and multimedia-based assessments that are utilized across many industries around the world.  In addition, Dr. Fetzer is responsible for developing and implementing new and innovative methods for multimedia-based talent measurement, including serious games and other cutting-edge technologies.
Dr. Fetzer holds a doctoral degree in I-O psychology and is a contributing member of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), the Association of Test Publishers (ATP), the International Test Commission (ITC), the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP), and the American Psychological Association (APA).

Kathy Tuzinski is a Principal Consultant at CEB. She works with a broad spectrum of clients to provide guidance on the application of CEB products to address their talent-related needs. In addition to her work with clients, she is also a product development expert with over fourteen years of experience creating innovative and engaging products for talent measurement, incorporating the latest animation and video technologies. She specializes in translating customer requirements into sellable products, managing cross-functional teams from IT and R&D, and adapting existing methods for test development to create entirely new ways of testing people's skills and capabilities. Her simulations have earned ‘Product of the Year’ awards from Human Resources Executive and Customer Interaction Systems magazines.
Prior to her current role at SHL, she was a research scientist for Personnel Decisions, International (now PDI Ninth House, a Korn Ferry Company) and InscapePublishing, where she provided research consulting to Fortune 100 clients and developed the widely used DiSC-based INDRA tool for employee development. As a means of assessing job applicants, multimedia simulations are proving an advanced alternative to traditional personnel tests. But these technological hiring tools are not without their challenges. Can they adequately balance hard knowledge with necessary soft skills? Do they truly measure what is required of the job?

Simulations for Personnel Selection surveys the diversity of this fast-moving field, analyzing key issues in technology, design and development, and scoring and validation. Accessible to the non-technical reader as well as the expert, the book provides both context for effectively implementing simulations and real-world examples of their use in testing for a variety of jobs and industries. Research findings and practical guidelines range widely, from data on candidates' reactions to simulations, to tools available to developers, to considerations for enlisting ready-to-use simulations instead of creating new ones from scratch. "Simulations in Action" chapters home in on specific skill areas across the career landscape, including:

  • Designing and implementing software and computer skills simulations.
  • Measuring contact center skills with multimedia simulations.
  • Interactive simulations in manufacturing settings.
  • Simulations for service roles.
  • Managerial simulations.
  • Tracing cognition with assessment center simulations.

Equally lavish in technological, scientific, and business insights, Simulations for Personnel Selection is a prime resource for academics, researchers, educators and professionals in industrial-organizational psychology, and for human resource executives, managers, and professionals. Academics in business and education should find it a valuable addition to their curricula as well.
