Hardcover. Zustand: New. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING, SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, WITH ORIGINAL HANDMADE CYANOTYPE. Edition of 200 copies; no further edition to be issued. The book is now out of print. 50 pp. Bound in cobalt cloth-covered boards, without dust jacket as issued. The original cyanotype is present in its glassine envelope, mounted on the front flyleaf. Gore's debut poetry collection explores early motherhood, photography, memory-making, migration, translation, and time. The poems take the form of fragmented, image-driven prose sestinas, bringing together intimate scenes and reflections on art and representation. Photography provides a recurring framework for the work, with references to cyanotype, tintype, and daguerreotype processes. The collection won the Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize. Christian Wiman writes: "Her poems are so delicately made, and yet so densely lived. I felt like I was holding my breath through this whole sequence, and when I released it—the language released me—the air of existence seemed clearer, truer, more transparently itself." The relationship between poetry and photography is reflected materially in the book itself: each copy of the edition includes an original cyanotype handmade by the author. Because each cyanotype was individually hand-printed and exposed, the edition exhibits considerable variation from copy to copy, ranging from pale blue to deep blue, with corresponding differences in the sharpness and legibility of the elements within the image, so that each is an individual photographic work with its own distinctive characteristics. The work has been discussed in The London Magazine, The Poetry Foundation, Rusted Radishes, The New Cambridge Chapbook Review, Tears in the Fence, and elsewhere. Clean and unmarked throughout.
