This book is written to enlighten high school students and their families, and those studying or consider studying engineering. The book is divided into a short introduction followed by eleven chapters and appendices. The first chapter goes through history of engineering according to what is documented in the books of history and has a look at the future, though hard to predict. Chapter two presents precollege, preparation, followed by engineering careers in chapter three, chapter four defines engineering and the engineering team. Chapter five presents description of various engineering degrees. Chapters six to eight present ways of solving engineering problems and examples of solved engineering problems. Chapter nine explains the importance of codes and standards and samples of few standards which should be taught to students prior to graduation. Chapter ten introduces ten case studies and presents the Code of Ethics for Engineers as stated by the National Society of Professional Engineers of America.Chapter eleven presents few science and engineering analogies as seen by the author in addition to analogies cited by their references.

The author obtained his BSc in electrical engineering from King Saud University (KSU) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 1968 and his MSc and PhD in electrical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) Pittsburgh, Pa, USA in 1972 and 1977, respectively. He joined KSU in 1977 as assistant professor and was promoted to full professor in 1988.
