En esta novela, las calles de Lima se convierten en el escenario de un joven estudiante de Derecho, Ludo, en plena crisis vital, de confrontaci�n entre la juventud y la madurez, entre una vocaci�n discutible y un futuro incierto.
En las primeras l�neas de la historia, este protagonista aparece en la oficina, �est� aburrido y con sed, por todo eso es que Ludo interrumpe el recurso de embargo que est� redactando y lanza un gemido poderoso�, renuncia a su trabajo y se dispone a callejear por la ciudad en una especie de aventura inici�tica. El gemido que lanza cuando empieza la novela recorre todo el libro hasta su fin.
