Their blossoming careers ended abruptly when the Viet Nam Conflict broke out. Chad retired to his ranch in Wyoming and Zach went to war. Meantime, Kelly joined the antiwar movement. In a twist of fate, she was protesting in Washington DC while Zach was recuperating from war injuries at nearby Walter Reed Hospital. Zach returned to Houston after his release to write jingles for an advertising firm. Since Kelly had taken a 10-year hiatus to protest, she and Cliff were on the brink of financial disaster. Reluctantly, she agreed to revive her career. During rehearsals, Cliff is killed in a car accident. Kelly followed through on her promise to him and completed a successful tour. On her return home, she is kidnapped from a roadhouse parking lot by two degenerate brothers. After a period of no progress, her case was relegated to the cold case files.
