Iv page of contents and title + IX pages of introduction + 144 pages to part 1 & 2 page contents leaf and 135 pages with 6 engraved plates and plate list on verso of final page, the two frontispieces are hand-coloured aquatints, the others are drypoint etchings, probably taken from the authors drawings as they are quite primitive in style. The first book has some light water damage near gutters but hardly seen, perhaps professional cleaned? [as the book has a 20th century two-tone sugar paper binding with paper label] the pages are uncut as issued, new endpapers, the 2nd volume is very good, the two plates to book 1 have some light watermarks at margins/gutters also.The paper is hand-made rag paper and with the uncut edges, several with closed splits at edges, due to flicking through the book with the pages of uneven length, still feels like a handsome copy. This 3rd edition was extended by 25 & 21 pages respectively with more detail included. There is a dedicatory page in the 1st book at page 93 to Miss Lucy Lovegrove. Octavo. 20 x 13 cm.
