PROVENANCE: English born Stephen Marchant (1912-2003) was a petroleum geologist who wrote many high quality international bird papers. In 1963 he migrated to Australia and became actively involved with the Royal Australasian Ornithologists' Union (now Birdlife Australia), becoming the editor of The Emu in 1968 and then the driving force behind the publication of the Handbook of Australian, New Zealand and Antarctic Birds [HANZAB] and its first editor.
