Slight cracking to hinges, with exposed netting, pages remain attached. Pages and illustrations have light tanning and foxing throughout. Previous owner's inscriptions to front free endpaper and title page. Boards have heavy shelf-wear with bumping to corners, crushing to spine ends and rub wear all over. Hardback, VG. Half-leather, bumped and rubbed to corners and top/base of spine. Spine in 6 panels with five raised bands with gilt decoration and gilt lettering to second panel. Front and reverse have gilt bands along the edge of the leather, and brown boards rubbed and marked. Binding strong, but starting to separate between frontispiece and title page. Marbled endpapers, with some damage to fep bottom r.h. corner. Frontispiece colour illustration. 1178pp., full-page colour illustrations and b/w illustrations in the text.
