From an Irish writer who's reputation was marred by his politics then and now. This work of embellished truth of a man wo's money was stolen by the Louth County Treasurer is a detailed commentary of life in that part of Ireland at the time. It depicts in its pages the humble and poor women and Irish Peasantry of the period of some of Irelands greatest national tribulations. Known for his depiction in fact and fiction of Irish life, he became an Anglicised Irishman and alienated himself with the Catholic (powerful) church all his writing career/life and being encouraged by some to plague the Catholic clergy in Ireland in his writings. His controversial position also alienated him from almost everyone he met during his life and he was always poor and in want. He was awarded a £200 a year pension at the end of his life and he was buried in Dublin with a handsome headstone on his grave. A Precursor of the Celtic Revival movement.
