The first tale has 16 full page woodcut plates and 15 vignette illustrations by the Brothers Dalziel and the last tale has 3 full page plates. there is a separating half title to this story. Original cloth, original yellow endpaper, prize label inside cover "Ernest Hammond. For Good Conduct, Arundel School" signed by W. Crick? Vicar. AEG. Small octavo. A lovely clean copy of this scarce work originally published in 1846 and then again in the 20th century. This one dates to about 1870-80. *Little known author today, but his poem "Orion" was very highly regarded and he was the first to encourage Elizabeth Barrett Browning and see the merits of Tennyson and Keats. Having sailed to Australia he also has the dubious reputation of being the founding father of the Australian Wine Industry and a company he began is still operating from the same premises.
