Dated 3rd February, 1947, it reads: "Dear Geoffrey, This is just a line to say how very glad I am personally that the Committee have unanimously decided to ask you to become an honorary member of the Climbers' Club. I can't think of anyone in the Club's history whos deserved this as well as you have and I know that all your friends in the Club will be as pleased about it as I am myself. I hope therefore very much that you will accept the offer as a very small recompense to you for your services to the Club and in particular for keeping the Club in being as an active body during the difficult years of the War. With best wishes, Yours ever, (signature)." Also loosely inserted hand made card with photograph taken in the Alps [?] of seven men on a snowy ridge with a peak rising above them. Inside the card a note reads: "Will / All Good Wishes for / Christmas and the New Year / from / Christopher Cox // I have had some wonderful days since you introduced me to the hills." Geoffrey Batrum was a friend of Geoffrey Young, and a regular member of Young's Pen-y-Pass parties. He was popular and had a great singing voice. When he was elected to the Climbers' Club in 1910 Young was his proposer and H.V. Reade was seconder. Bartrum served the Club committee during the second world war and was responsible for the successful realisation of Young's ideas. (Climbers' Club journal 1961, reprinted from the Alpine Journal). Our books are all in good reading condition unless otherwise described. Ordering books sight unseen is risky so we undertake to deliver accurately described books. If you are not satisfied return the book immediately by return mail and we will credit your account for the full amount minus postage.
The shipping prices quoted on ABEBooks reflect what we have found to be the "average book". Of course in reality there are many books that do not weigh what an "average book" weighs so there are times when we need to requote shipping, just as there are times when we are in position to refund some of the shipping. Please rest assured we try to get your order to you for a reasonable price, as quickly and as well packed (we carefully pack all of our parcels in book boxes) as possible.
