Colour pictorial map of Kyushu with an inset of the Ryukyu Islands by well known manga artist Sato Yasutaro. 25.8 x 33.2cm. Margins trifle bumped and lightly browned but overall very good. This lovely map was issued in an atlas supplment to the May issue of Shonen Kurabu (The Boy Club) published in 1935. The shows geographical details, railway networks and sailing routes as well as agricultural produce etc. The life-style of the people of Kyushu are also depicted. The maps were designed to show the productivity of the areas, and to inspire young male readers to explore their country. The illustrator, Shimada Keizo, was a popular cartoonist of the period and his cartoon series, Boken Dankichi (Dankichi's Adventures) was published in Shonen Kurabu.
