This first format book (plain end pages, gold lettering outlined in black) is clean, square, and free of corner bumps and edge dings; head and heel of the spine are very lightly bumped. The entire red binding is shiny except for the lower corner of the rear board--there a 1" x 1-1/4" section has a dulled appearance. The interior is clean--no writing, no stains, no page damage--with strong hinges and very supple paper. The jacket is a bit worn: the front edge has chips and color loss due to wear, the head and heel of the spine have chips (one takes out part of the publisher's name), and the spine has a top-to-bottom fold.
